The pensions market – the new economic context, value for money, and policy on transparency

Tuesday 29 November, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

£210

Guests of Honour: Rachael McGruer, Lead, Better Workplace Pensions Team, Department for Work and Pensions; Sue Lewis, Chair, Financial Services Consumer Panel and Andy Agathangelou, Founding Chair, Transparency Task Force

Please note the date of this seminar has changed.

This seminar will examine the key challenges for policymakers and the pensions industry in improving transparency and developing greater consumer trust.

It follows the Government’s consultation Transaction costs disclosure: improving transparency in workplace pensions, with legislation expected this year.

Delegates will also consider the further action that can be taken to ensure that customers are receiving value for money on their pensions and the initial impact of Independent Governance Committees, following their introduction in April 2015.

Additional planned sessions explore action that can be taken to ensure that consumers are able to access truly independent advice and are able to make informed decisions about the right retirement products for them, in light of the Work and Pensions Select Committee’s current inquiry on pension freedom guidance and advice.

The seminar will bring together key policymakers with stakeholders including pension and annuities providers and other representatives from the financial services sector, representatives of employers and trade unions, pensioners' rights and consumers' groups, academics and others with an interest in these issues.

We are delighted that Rachael McGruer, Lead, Better Workplace Pensions Team, Department for Work and Pensions; Sue Lewis, Chair, Financial Services Consumer Panel and Andy Agathangelou, Founding Chair, Transparency Task Force have kindly agreed to deliver keynote addresses at the conference.

Dr Yvonne Braun, Director, Long Term Savings Policy, ABI; Con Keating, Head of Research, Brighton Rock Group; Dr Jonathan Lipkin, Director, Public Policy, Investment Association and Gregg McClymont, Head of Retirement Savings, Aberdeen Asset Management and former Shadow Minister for Pensions have also agreed to speak.

Nigel Mills MP, Vice Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Pensions has kindly agreed to chair a session at this seminar.
