Addressing Climate Risk in Pension Funds Roundtable

Monday 27 March, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

ShareAction is holding a roundtable for pension fund trustees to explore the issue of addressing climate risk in pension funds on Monday 27 March, 4.30 – 6.30pm, at Jupiter Asset Management, The Zig Zag Building, 70 Victoria St, London SW1E 6SQ
Please RSVP here
As long term investors, climate change represents significant risks (as well as opportunities) for pension funds: not only the impact of physical risk and technological change on portfolios but also the risks associated with transition, such as regulation following the ratification of the Paris Agreement this year.

On the positive side there are new investment opportunities in low carbon sectors. However, few pension funds have addressed climate risk on their funds. A Professional Pensions survey in 2016 indicated that 53% of respondents said that they do not see climate change as posing financially material risk to their own or their clients’ portfolios.

In the wake of the Paris Agreement and the recent IORP II European directive it is prudent for pension fund trustees to start to address this urgent issue. Despite the fact that data is not perfect there are still actions that pension funds can take to address risks (and opportunities). This roundtable will equip trustees with a practical toolkit with which to get to the heart of the matter.

Speakers will include:

  • Russell Picot, Chair of HSBC Pension Fund
  • Emma Howard Boyd, Chair of ShareAction
  • Tony Filbin, Trustee of L&G Mastertrust, Member of L&G IGC
  • Andrew Warwick-Thompson, Executive Director for Regulatory Policy, The Pensions Regulator
  • Stuart O’Brien, Finance and Investment Partner, Sackers

The formal roundtable will end at 6pm, and be followed by drinks and the opportunity to network.
