The Future of Pensions Consulting

Wednesday 8 November, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Over the past year, we have had reports from the Work and Pensions Select Committee (WPC) and The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association's (PLSA) DB Pensions Task Force as well as a Green Paper on pensions from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) with recommendations for the future of DB.

The PLSA’s DB Taskforce has suggested, among other things, the radical idea that employers should be able to offload their DB scheme into merged 'superfunds' – a move that would see employers pay a fee to reduce scheme underfunding but also see member benefits cut in some cases.

Hear from our Expert Panel:
The superfund – will it fly?
Scheme consolidation could be the saviour for many DB schemes. However, fixing their fragmented nature and the inflexibility of the system, leaves many questions to be answered around the practicalities of scheme consolidation, such as what will it mean for others if one scheme defaults?

  • Does consolidation only benefit smaller schemes?
  • Adjustment of DB benefits – RPI/CPI
  • If not consolidation, what is the alternative for stressed schemes?
