“ Adding value as a trustee is much more than just understanding your strict legal duties. It is about contributing effectively to the debate around the trustee table and making sure your voice is both heard and influential. It is about nurturing the relationship with the employer and negotiating skilfully when required. It includes being prepared for the unexpected and keeping a cool head when under fire. Those trustees which master these softer – but vital – skills will improve the lot of their members immeasurably .

Ian Pittaway will lead an interactive session highlighting these subtler skills and giving delegates tips and pointers to make a real difference around the trustee board table.

Ian is Senior Partner of Sackers , specialist pensions lawyers. He is also chair of several pension schemes and chair of the Association of Professional Pensions Trustees. He is vastly experienced and this will be a lively and productive session.

The “outstanding” Ian Pittaway maintains a reputation as a towering figure in the pensions industry.  He is known for providing advice to numerous high-profile clients.  “His breadth of experience shines through in the quality of advice he gives,” say clients – Chambers Legal Directory UK 2017 “

9 ways (or thereabouts) to get members interested in their pension

You know that pensions are really important. So why is it hard to get members to feel the same?

The problem stems from the way we talk about them. The unhelpful jargon. The long and confusing sentences. A preoccupation with not getting it wrong, rather than getting it right for members. We take people round the houses and lose them on the way.

Communication experts Quietroom invite you to discover some of the tricks they’ve learned from 14 years of work with DB and DC schemes. Schemes like Whitbread, Lloyds, HSBC, Kodak, Invensys, and Unilever.

In 90 minutes, you’ll learn and practice some easy ways to make your words more meaningful to your members.

To make it even more relevant to you, Quietroom invite you to share a piece of communication you’d like to include in the workshop. It can be something that you’d like help with, or just something you’ve seen that you feel strongly about – good and bad, but not too long.

Please email mark.scantlebury@quietroom.co.uk

The workshop will be fun, fast-moving, and full of ideas and techniques you can put into practice the next day - and not just in your communications to members.

There are limited places for this opportunity to learn from the Pensions Insight Communications Provider of the Year 2016. So book now!

"Quietroom have changed the way we talk about pensions. They cut through the complexity and make it work for the man on the street." Henry Tapper, Pension Playpen.
